A Survey of Inverse Surface Design From Light Transport Behavior Specification

Inverse surface design problems from light transport behavior specification usually represent extremely complex and costly processes, but their importance is well known. In particular, they are very interesting for lighting and luminaire design, in which it is usually difficult to test design decisions on a physical model in order to avoid costly mistakes. In this survey, we present the main ideas behind these kinds of problems, characterize them, and summarize existing work in the area, revealing problems that remain open and possible areas of further research.

Non-redundant data clustering

Data clustering is a popular approach for automatically finding classes, concepts, or groups of patterns. In practice, this discovery process should avoid redundancies with existing knowledge about class structures or groupings, and reveal novel, previously unknown aspects of the data. In order to deal with this problem, we present an extension of the information bottleneck framework, called coordinated conditional information bottleneck, which takes negative relevance information into account by maximizing a conditional mutual information score subject to constraints. Algorithmically, one can apply an alternating optimization scheme that can be used in conjunction with different types of numeric and non-numeric attributes. We discuss extensions of the technique to the tasks of semi-supervised classification and enumeration of successive non-redundant clusterings. We present experimental results for applications in text mining and computer vision.     

软测量的工程化设计

将软测量应用到工业生产之前必须解决其工程化设计的问题.为此,在软测量技术理论研究和应用经验的基础上,对软测量工程化设计中应解决的关键问题和解决方法进行了研究.软测量的工程化设计包括机理分析、辅助变量选择、数据采集和预处理、建立软测量模型、设计校正模块等步骤.其关键技术在于软测量过程的数据处理、模型的建立和校正.并以杭州龙山化工厂碳酸化塔中C02浓度软测量的工程化设计为例,对工程化设计中的一些关键问题处理进行介绍.实践表明,软测量的工程化设计在实际工业生产中具有很好的应用性和指导性,但也有待更进一步的研究.

超稠油生产重交通道路石油沥青工艺探讨

超稠油的密度大、粘度高、轻油收率低、酸值高，沥青组成分布不合理，生产沥青困难。探索合适的超稠油生产沥青的加工工艺，不但可以解决超稠油加工困难问题，而且增加了生产道路沥青产品的原料资源。试验及生产证明，采用调和、预处理-蒸馏等工艺加工超稠油能够生产出合格的重交通道路石油沥青产品。     

Remarks on different reviews of Chinese character recognition

This paper gives an introduction and remarks on two review papers for Chinese character recognition. One review is made by Chinese authors, another is from American scientists. They investigate Chinese character from different language environments; they do the research from different points of view. Thus, a more comprehensive view on Chinese character recognition, which is an important branch of pattern recognition, can be provided to the readers. Meantime, one article pays attention to online process, and other paper deals with offline recognition, which complement each other. The author is the Associate Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers of Computer Science in China
